About MaryArtDear Parents and Students,
Welcome! Mary graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Education. She really enjoys teaching children and adults how to draw. Mary believes that everyone can learn to draw and has been successful in teaching people to draw for over 27 years. Countless artists' biographies discuss the importance of learning to see and observe the world as the first step in learning to draw. Mary believes this also. Once one learns to see, one can learn to draw. Mary will teach you to see, to observe an object, person, or animal and to see how all the parts relate. She will teach you to observe if a line is straight or curved and to notice the angle of that line. She will teach you how to compose a picture, how to show movement and depth. You will learn about proportion, horizon lines and vanishing points as well as foreground, midground and background. Mary offers encouragement and an "I can do it" attitude. Students will follow a Guided Drawing lesson which they will put their own personal touch on. Her classes are fun, exciting and use top of the line art supplies. Mary teaches art throughout the Issaquah, Mercer Island and Lake Washington School Districts as an Artist in Residence, a contract art teacher sponsored by the PTSA or PTA, and as an Enrichment teacher before and after school. She also teaches classes for Mercer Island Parks and Recreation, Bellevue Art & Frame, private schools, and the homeschool community. Hello Everyone! After 20 successful years of teaching art, I semi-retired at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. I continue my "Artist in Residency" at Island Park Elementary, Mercer Island School District and Sunset Elementary, Issaquah School District. I will continue to teach summer classes for Mercer Island Parks and Recreation. I recently taught drawing classes for a "Women's Night Out" and a "Women's Retreat" which were so much fun. The participants had a great time. I continue to do Birthday Parties and Girl Scout Art Merit Badges. Keep Drawing! Mary Watson |
